We believe in our community
Dear Chelsea,
My wife and I came to Chelsea five years ago because we had faith in your extraordinary community. We believed we could offer our young family the best schooling, the best in family values and the best that rural life could offer. This is exactly what we found in Chelsea. These elements are all defined by the people and families belonging to this community as well as the principles that are adhered to by all of us. Read more.
Continued development
I believe that Chelsea can become a vibrant and exciting community while still retaining an integral part of its heritage and its rural character. It is what makes us different from so many other municipalities and what makes Chelsea so special. Our rural traditions must remain at the forefront of our continued development, more importantly, though, we have to move forward together, united. In order to accomplish this task our council needs to improve communications between town hall and residents and we also must act with more transparency. Read More.

So you say you want to keep Chelsea rural? Does that mean that you will definitely not support include building a water and sewer line down to the Gatineau river to serve Chelsea Creek?
Mr. Gauthier,
Thank you for your question.
I want to be as clear as possible when answering this question; I will never support a sewer system to serve Chelsea Creek. I am a strong advocate of a rural Chelsea and we, like so many other people, came here for that specific reason.
I do, however, support having a waste water system in Chelsea centre village for the benefit of our community.
Not clear? Then please let me clarify.
I don’t expect Chelsea to lose any of its charm because of a certain amount of investment in our infrastructure, in fact, I think that Chelsea will be able to flourish and benefit. For example, our quiet pleasant village may eventually be able to offer our seniors options within their community, amongst their family and friends, what, for now, they can only find in other villages like Wakefield and Masham, or even worse for some; Gatineau.
I’ll not dwell, either, on the health reasons for this system or the possibility of provincial intervention concerning this environmental problem. Your question deals with the rural aspect of Chelsea and I will share my thoughts along those lines.
I have seen so many villages throughout Europe and North America and they all have a vibrant village center which includes its general store, malt shops, cafés and boutiques and, within a short walk, all the benefits of a picturesque and quiet rural life. These villages retain everything that is at the core of their own particular heritage but more importantly it permits all their residents to congregate, interact, express and share their identity. It permits them to grow as a community.
Change, however, is not for everyone, I agree, but it is inevitable and that is the reason we should embrace these changes and fashion these new challenges to fit and reflect our heritage.
That is the underlying reason for my support. I couldn’t care less if Chelsea Creek uses the waste water system or not….I’m only interested in how the municipality of Chelsea, as a whole, can benefit from it.
The rural character of Chelsea will not be threatened it will flourish.
Thank you
I do have a baseball related question for all candidates in Ward 2. In order for baseball to accommodate our increasing numbers and in order to bring tournaments and playoffs into Chelsea we need to invest in our field. I would argue that improvements to the diamond itself and the ability to play at night would have a positive economic impact. More kids and parents would come to Chelsea, visit the local stores for a drink or a candle and go for a bite at the restaurants and perhaps spend a few hours relaxing at a spa.
Mr. Courchêne,
I am determined to see our children become all that they can be. If some in our community wish to see their children play baseball then it becomes our responsibility to see that they can.
I will do all in my power to see that there are facilities of all types for our children to enjoy. If baseball can continue to grow in Chelsea then by all means I will work to see that it happens.
All levels of government, throughout Canada, are doing their utmost to have our young involved in a variety of programs; among them are sports programs and better nutrition, not to mention higher education programs and even programs in aiding our children to stay in school. As a community we must come to together in this collective effort. I am not saying that our municipality should foot the bill (in fact it might not be able to)…. but whether it takes fund raising from the community or local businesses then I’ll be there to help raise it. If we can get funding from other levels of government or school board programs, then I’ll work to get that funding. Finally, when all other avenues have been exhausted and some contribution from our municipality might be needed, then I will look at that as well.
I cannot and will not guarantee that our municipality can contribute financially to a baseball diamond, that will remain to be seen, but I will definitely not look solely at the bottom line to guarantee that we can’t.
There are never any guarantees that can be offered before an election except this; I will work diligently to ensure that our children can fully enjoy all the available sports programs we can offer.
You can count on me
Thank you for your question
BRAVO mon chum!!
Chelsea,
I would like to thank all the residents of our Ward. You have bestowed upon me a humbling honour. I will endeavour to serve, as your representative, with the utmost integrity and courtesy. Together, we will help Chelsea grow into a vibrant and exciting community; for ourselves, our children and our seniors.
Thank you
