I was shocked to learn the morning of Nov. 1 as I prepared to vote in the Chelsea, Quebec municipal election that one of the two candidates for councillor in my ward, No. 3, had dropped out of the race just two days earlier.
With Peter Lloyd’s departure, Peter Griffin was acclaimed. Mr. Lloyd’s website says he suddenly realized he had too much work to do. Why did Mr. Lloyd wait so long to reach that decision? Why did neither Mr. Lloyd nor Mr. Griffin campaign to any extent? Why did neither turn up at the only all-candidates debate in Chelsea? Democracy does not seem to be very healthy in Chelsea Ward 3.
