The Editor,
I am very sorry to hear that Jean Perras is not running in this coming election as a Chelsea, Quebec mayor and that many long term council members like Luce Gilbert, in my own district, have taken the same decision. We are losing a lot of valuable people and they will be hard to replace, even though I trust that with time the new team will do a great job. The salary is not very high and they should have our support for taking their time to represent us, living in a democracy is something we should never take for granted.
I think the insults and personal attacks the actual council received along their mandate did not make them want to run again. I personally witness very discourteous interventions at public meetings and read very disgraceful letters in this newspaper.
Your newspaper being the only local organ of communication in this area, you have the responsibility to keep very high standards regarding what you publish. I hope the new council will receive a better treatment.

Ms Dessereault is entitled to her opinion but the treatment that I and my husband received at the hands of the present mayor and council when we needed to appeal to their good offices gives a new meaning to the word “nasty”. Jean Perras carried nastiness to new heights. Perhaps Ms Desserault never had much contact with this bunch.
